I'm all for the quick ((brb)) if it's something important, but if you do have the time to do it without touching /s, then I see no reason not to do it.
As for correcting your spelling... I really only see a need to do that if a) your typo changed the meaning of what you said, or b) it was so horribly bad that you can hardly read it. In the latter case, it might be time to start practicing. Or stop drinking. Of course, as always, anywhere is better than /s.
Let's not get started on actual OOC conversations in brackets in /s though...
