| I'm taking a small break from WoW, i'll still be online now and then, but not as much as i used to be. However, i reopened my old DDO account and is now playing there instead. Im making a new character when i get home today but so far my characters are: "Tonwen" - Sorcerer "Aia - Aureon" - Ranger ( the "- Aureon" is because the character was made on a server that was shut down) Server: Keepers For those who doesn't know DDO: The game is more realistic than WoW and it's filled with much more action and speed. In wow, you encounter a mob, what do you do? Target the mob and wait the 30sec for the mob to die, you get two mobs and barely survive, three mobs and your dead for sure. (you know what i mean). DDO style, you encounter a mob, you one-shot it and moves on to the next, two mobs... two shots and moves on. However, when you are ambushed in WoW you get attacked by 1-4, 5 tops. I still remember my first ambush in DDO... Walking down the corridor to the chest the party and i had spotted by the wall there. GM: "You hear something running towards you from behind, it's an ambush!". (GM text and speech). I who was new to the game turns around expecting like 4 or 5 kobolds... 25 kobolds and 2 shamans comes rushing down the corridor! The Wizard burns some serious mana and fries like 6 of them by spraying fire on them. The barbarian rages and starts running through the kobolds swinging his Axe like a madman. I was still a little surprised but target one of the shamans and starts firering, unfortunatly i don't hit them because some damn kobolds is standing in front of them, so clipping some kobolds instead. Eventually we got them down and got our chest. Instancing in WoW how is that like? Mobs -> Pull -> Kill -> Move on -> Repeat. DDO: Mobs -> They've seen you -> Kill -> Move -> Injured Wizard -> Heal Wizard -> Rogue diables the trap that almost cost our Wizard -> Repeat. There is more to instances than just mobs and bosses. Not even all instances have bosses! It depends on your objective in the specific dungeon... I soloed a low level dungeon yesterday, to get back to the game kinda, my objective was to find the 2 lost adventuring parties. In the dungeon i discovered 2 optional quests, kill the zombified adventures and kill the kobold leader. The more effective you are in the dungeon the more XP you'll get from it, doing optional quests, ransack bonus for destroying barrels, crates and such, rampage bonus for killing many mobs, perseption bonus for discovering secret rooms, trap bonus for disabeling traps, difficulty bonus, for doing the instance on hard or expert. Alot of factors determins the XP gained. And yes, instances are about the only way to gain XP, it is possible to solo instances using the "solo difficulty" level of said instances, not all have this difficulty though and the game highly suggests that you group up with others as it is next to impossible to go anywhere alone. Another thing we know from wow is "Evade" everybody have seen it and everybody hates it, that doesn't exist in DDO, if you find yourself high above the enemy with a ranged weapon... though luck kobold, your screwed. Evade doesn't exist only advantages and disadvantages. Ofcause if the kobold moves he's harder to hit for you, it takes real movement into account, if it moves, it moves and the kobold behind it might take the hit, or you scorch the wall behind the intended target. There is a 10 day free trial if you feel like trying it out. | |

| I've played DDO.
I wasn't overly keen, but then again, i played it when it first came out... So it was a social wasteland.
Maybe i will try again sometime.

| I heard 10 is the level cap there. And when you reached it you have not much to do. Is that true? | |

| I am playing DDO, and my wife too...
She has 13th lvl Human Cleric there...
I had a Warforged Paladin there, tho I deleted it, so I am leveling new character now. New character: Drow Ranger lvl 5...
btw: max lvl cap is 16 atm... but u have sort of midlevels between levels, where u get action points to invest in certain abilities, so one might say that there r like alot of levels, but u get hitpoints only every 5th lvl ^^;
game is very nice, especially if u like RP, but to my avail PvP is not that good; tho I have Guild Wars for that, and GW has best PvP to date...
Hehe, DDO tanks, thats a hard work, no standard aggro, no standard aggro skills, u have to bash em with shield corner em, trip am, and loads of tough manuvers to keep mobs at bay, and wizards are sooo squishy ^^; BODY-BLOCKING FTW!!!
PS: both me and my wife quited WoW... final thoughts of WoW: cursed grind-fest and gear pressure + loads of retarded kids... Hope Age of Conan will be more serious, and less materialistic... Leveling is the demise of RPG...
cheers...
PS2: I cant wait Module 7, cause Monk is one of my favorite D&D classes, and it will come into DDO...

| Thanks for the info, i am aware WoW is pure grindfest. Also my favoride class in DnD is monk too, just that might convince me to have a look at that game. | |

| Hm,
I'm kinda sick of WoW at the moment (I'm on Defias levelling my gnome as my end game horde characters are boring) - I may try it out next weekend.

| Wohoo, Cath steals the subscribers from Blizz, I'LL DRIVE WOW TO RUIN!!
On a more serious note...
Glad to hear it guys ^^ You'll always be welcome around me... except Kim, he's wierd <.<
I think i've settled my characters so far, got:
Aia - Aureon (Ranger), for the rare "- Aureon" thingie ^^ Kichi (Cleric), for a private party with my brother, my best friend and his brother. Avelii (Sorcerer), expected main, yet Aia is still higher level, going strong though.
Feel free to Whisper me anytime you want.
PS: My "break" from wow is starting to look more like a "Quit", but nothing is settled yet.
REMEMBER THE SERVER IS: !!! KEEPER !!!
Not Devourer. | |

| Come to think about it, in the lines of what Bov asked about the levels. Last time i played DDO the level cap was 10, it's been raised to 16 as Rhyss said, meaning a 60% increase in one year. If WoW was evolving at the same speed we would be level 168 by now (wow is 3 years old right?), they've implemented, Auction Houses, a new race loads of new feats, enhancements and what-not. I reinstalled my game when i started playing again... 12300 updates was downloaded in about 4-5 hours. | |

| Yesterday night we killed ZulJin (Yay) so i am happy now. But i saw there is digital download on DDO's site. So i will download and give a try anyway. There comes your druid, or bard till monk class comes. Edit: Bah digital download is in North America only, and I cant find it in bookstores here | |

| Hmm, i bought my game in the shop here... http://www.ddo.com/articles/962 As far as i can see it doesn't state if it's US or EU version, i think only the account used makes the diffrence, but im not sure. | |

| Hey i downloaded it from another place and get an account online. Currently i am level 1 warforged barbarian called Bohan Mccanus, wandering if barbarian D.R. will be usable with my adamantite plates +2 D.R. bonus. It is enjoyable to be a clueless noob in a game. A lot to learn. Edit: I am on Keeper server. | |
