PostSubject: Going Home   Fri 01 Feb 2008, 13:57

Note: I like to assume that dying didn't erase Taks' memory of the Human language and the only reason they don't speak it in game to to stop cross faction insults and abuse.

***

Takmari had her back turned to Gobrot though he could clearly see her in the mirrors reflection. Her mouth looked worse than ever, torn up, red and oozing, despite that sewing it up seemed to aggravate it more, she stitched methodically from left to right.

“Why did you do that? Look at yourself, you just made it worse.” Gobrot sighed.
She put the needle down and looked at him through the reflection, “I’m not exactly doing it for aesthetic reasons; I don’t want anything falling off.”
“That’s gross…”
Takmari frowned, “And that’s coming from a demon.”

Tak turned around and looked about the room, her eyes rested on the twitching corpse of a bone flayer she’d kept chained up.

Gobrots’ eyes followed, “It ain’t as lively anymore Takky, does this mean ya did it?”
Tak scratched her head and walked over to the corpse; it twitched at her feet then slumped over. “Well it looks properly dead now. It only took 3 weeks for my plague to kill it, but it’s dead.”

Tak prodded the corpse with her staff, it twitched again then reached out a boney hand grasping for Taks’ robe. She took a step back and sighed, before slamming the end of her staff into its head, its skull cracked over spewing the remains of its brain over the floor.

“I’m sick of this…” Tak said as she prodded at the ooze. “Gobrot, help me pack.”
“Eh? What, why?” the imp scuttled over to Tak and looked up at her.
“I have no desire to live among suck putridness; it has brought me no closer to the answers I seek.”
He tugged on Taks’ robe, “So where are we going?”
“We will travel to Silvermoon, from there I will have my things sent to Mulgor.”
“To the Druids? Drogan really got to ya last night then?” Gobrot moved to sit on the corpse.
Takmari walked to her desk and began packing her things, “More of them need proof that the Forsaken aren’t just bitter, twisted and unaccepting. I will try and do that.”
Gobrot moved over to a lab bench and started gathering things together. “And why ain’t we just gonna head straight to Mulgor?”
“I’m going to Southshore first.”
Gobrot rolled over laughing, “Good one Tak, where we really headin’”?
Tak smirked in reply.
“Oh god, you’re serious ain’t cha?” He sat up, “What cha doing this time? Going ta visit the family?”
“What else would I do there?”

***

Tak, shrouded in black robes, hurried through Southshore, avoiding people whenever possible. She knew the place like it was yesterday; amazing what a few past trinkets can do for the memory…

She stood outside a door, knuckles raised and ready to knock, but Tak was scared. She had never done anything so important in her unlife without Gobrot there. But now, he was far away in the fel planes and she was stood in a Human town, at a humans’ door all alone.

What would knocking on this door bring? A stranger? News of her families’ death? Rejection? As long as Tak got some kind of closure, she didn’t mind.

She knocked on the door and an older man opened wide but almost immediately began to close again as he realised whoever was at the door was not a friend. Determined Tak barged her way through the closing door, it was easy to overpower such an old man even in Taks’ state.

Shutting the door behind her, Tak placed a cold boney hand over the mans’ mouth to stop him raising an alarm. Even with the utter look of panic and fear conveyed on his face, Tak recognised her fathers face in the light. A voice called from upstairs and grew louder as it descended the stair case. Dulled by age, Tak still knew her mothers voice.

Just as her mother came to the bottom step, Takmari withdrew her hand and removed her hood, showing her mutilated face to her parents; her father stumbled back in shock, tripping over a chair and fell onto the hard floor, Tak looked to her mother who was standing there white with shock.

“T… Takmari?”
Tak looked back to her father and offered him her hand. She tried to speak once, but only Orcish came to her lips, again she tried, but Gutterspeak flowed out. Finally, from somewhere deep inside her, the human tongue found her, “Mum… Dad…”

The words were hard to speak; they were so unfamiliar, unnatural to her now.

“What are you doing here?” Her mother practically screamed.
Tak turned towards her, “I… I came to see if you are well.”
Her father spoke up, “You’re one of them! Why would you care?”
“’Them’?” Tak almost spat the word out, “Would you rather I was one of the Scourge, mindless and savage?” her words flowed more freely now. “The Forsaken, the Horde are not your true enemy, the Scourge and the Burning Legion are.”
“I’d rather you were resting peacefully.” Taks’ mother spoke softly now, “But at least you’re not mindless like you said.”
“Still,” her fathers’ voice was harder, “you should go. Don’t come back Takmari.”
Takmari nodded her head, “I have my answer, you are well and I am glad.” She put her hood back on, obscuring her face and opened the door. “Goodbye.”
