PostSubject: Karazhan Review   Mon 05 Nov 2007, 19:30

I thought this might be useful to help us build on the sucesses, and failures of raids. If we can find out where things went wrong, we can fix them next time.

For each of the categories below, could we think about:

- was the tanking working out?
- was the dps working out?
- was the crowd control working out?
- was the healing working out?
and most importantly
- did you understand the fight and what you were meant to be doing?

So, I don't think our first attempt went badly at all. For a first try, we did pretty well, although we do need to work out what to do on Moroes next time.

This raid was

- Shagonar - Main Tank
- Uddersbane - Off Tank
- Leorna - Main Healer/cc
- Agali - Off Healer
- Orktush - Float Healer
- Ragd - DPS/cc
- Hapam - DPS/cc
- Gangrel - DPS
- Blaine - DPS
- Delco - DPS

#pre-attumen trash#

I don't think we had any problems with these. Although we had a few deaths, this was our first time in a 10 man group, and many of our first times in Karazhan. Tanking, dps, and healing were all sufficent, and once we knew what the mobs did, our crowd control wasn't bad either.

#Attumen the Huntsman#

By the second try, I think we'd figured out that we needed to pick up Attumen asap, before he one-shotted Leorna. This turned out to be pretty easy - both me and Shag could tank our mobs fine, and we were able to coordinate DPS so that we didn't have to fight mounted Attumen for very long.

#pre-moroes trash#

This wasn't too bad either - once we knew what things did, we were able to handle them, and Shag was an excellent MT here. One thing I did notice, however, was that Blaine was our only real AOE for clearing the non-elite mobs.

#Moroes#

This was hard. I think we need to sort out what we're doing for crowd control on his adds - once we got round to targetting Moroes, his hp was going down fairly fast, but he'd already garotted several of us, meaning we started dying. Our healers were also going OOM - although I think this was due to the length of the fight, rather than their mana pools being too low.

One thing that went terribly wrong at Moroes was the crowd control. Leorna's shackled mob and Ragd's trapped mob were hit by aoe's and released.

This is the solution according to me:
Leorna needs to stand far away from the rest of us, drag her mob there and shackle it in that place. He also needs to make a macro to re-shackle quickly every ten seconds.

Ragd must do the same thing with his trap - pulling to another side of the room.

The tanks and dps must be VERY careful not to aoe close to the cc'ed mobs!

We wouldn't suffer if we had another priest either.

AOE was not a problem for my traps on Moroes. My problem is i get a resist on traps every now and then and i have a 26sec cooldown on traps..

I have been looking at a slight alter in my spec for a 5% improved effect(on resists). I have to "steal" points in improved hp for that but i think i will do fine anyway.

Shackle is really the best way to cc on Moroes, i'v done him with 3 priests and that was pretty much a "walk in the park". I had a trap standby on the mt healers shackle just in case.

Well, I thought it was CC issues too... heres how I hope to get round them

Can Hapam have a trap ready too? If Ragd's one gets resisted, the mob could be pulled over Hapam's trap. Apparrently two hunter pets and a healer can offtank one of Moroes' adds successfuly - we could try that.

The problem with shackle is a hard one - it requires Leorna to waste mana on something that's not healing, and it gets aggro on Leorna as well. We can't really avoid this though. And yes, shackle is so good, it would be nice if we could do it on two enemies.

I can probably keep one of the melee adds on me while I'm tanking Moroes - infact, if I'm the second tank, this gives me more rage. This does require aggro not being pulled off me, which may be a problem.

If Shag is retri again, and thus not MTing for us, he could Turn Undead to control one mob, and possibly offtank another away from us. This would require us sacrificing two players (a healer and Shag), but may help immensely.

You have some good ideas there. We should try out what fits the current group best. I have made a respec now to so that the chance my traps will get resisted is decresed by 5%.

The important thing is to maintain a high group dps in order to kill Moroes fast.

I just came to think of a thing...Moroes removes a trap if he passes by it after vanish. That happend when we were at him last time Evil or Very Mad I had put a trap down when moroes vanished..."Garrot Ragd, whipe his trap" and 5sec later the blue square is loose and i have cooldown remaining until a new trap can be put down...

I found this text on wowwiki, can we build a stratergy around it? Hunters could place traps in front of the healers for protection.

"Variant: Paladin tank
A well equipped paladin tank can try to tank all of the adds and
Moroes at the same time. Take the adds down one at a time but leave one
add alive. As long as something is beating on the main tank, they are
near immune to the blinds and gouges as they will break when the player
is hit. One thing to note is that the adds WILL de-aggro from the
Paladin if he or she is gouged. If the gouge is not instantly broken,
the adds will most likely attack your healers - having an off-tank who
is keeping secondary aggro on all the adds will help limit this.

I've done healing on my Paladin on him, and it's pretty easy to do one job and keep the mob CCed as well. All you have to do is know your target and keep an eye out.

Though I respect doing that while tanking is pretty much... well I assume impossible.

Though if Shag is gonig respec to Retri, then he can do that and DPS at the same time.

Tank all the mobs on Moroes at once... Hmm... Interesting.

One thing to note is that if I need to Offtank that, I may have trouble - druids are poor multi-target tanks as Swipe is limited to three targets. We could give it a go, though.

My only concern about "tanking all" plan is the amount of damage I will take while tanking five "almost as hard as heroic" mobs which one of them is a boss mob.

Hm

Surely you only need to take the mobs we can't easily CC otherwise? We can shackle one, at least, and I'll grab one. That knocks it down to three straight away.

Also, you only need to be taking hits from everyone until we dps down the adds on you. Which shouldn't take too long.
